Surveys can be used to gather student feedback for evaluating teaching and for checking student knowledge. Questions on Surveys are not assigned a point value and student responses are anonymous.
Using the online Survey feature requires two steps:
- Creating a Survey
- Making a Survey available to students
To create a Survey,
- Click on the Control Panel
- In the Assessments area, click Survey Manager
- Click Add Survey
- Enter a name, description, instructions and click Submit
- Click Creation Settings, select the appropriate options and click Submit
Note: The Survey Creation Settings page allows instructors to adjust settings and add options to a Survey. These settings control options, such as categorization of questions and adding images and files to questions and answers.
- A receipt confirming your selected options will appear. Click OK
- In the Survey Canvas, select a question type from the drop down menu. The types of questions that can be created are as follow:
Multiple Choice; True/False; Fill in the Blank; Multiple Answer; Matching; Ordering; Essay
- Click Go and type the question in the Question Text field
- Type answers to choose from and click Submit
- Repeat the steps above as needed. Click OK when finished adding questions.
To make a Survey available or unavailable,
- From the Control Panel, click the content area where you would like to add the Survey
- Select Survey from the drop-down menu on the right and click Go
- Select the Survey to add to this content area and click Submit, then OK
- Click Modify the survey options
- Scroll down to Survey Availability. Select Yes to Make the link visible?
Note: To make the survey unavailable, select No to Make the link visible? You are advised to not remove the survey. Removing a survey deletes all student attempt data.
- Select the appropriate Survey Feedback and Survey Presentation options for the Survey and click Submit, then click OK
To view your students’ responses,
- Click on the Control Panel
- In the Assessment area, click Grade Center
- Click on the title of the Survey
- Click Assessment Attempt Details
- A page will load showing students responses to questions on the Survey by percentage
To modify a Survey,
- From the Control Panel, click on Survey Manager in the Assessment area
- Click Modify next to the Survey that needs to be modified
- Click Modify next to the question that needs to be modified
Note: Only textual changes to existing fields are allowed, for example to correct a typo or reword a confusing question. Note that after you make textual changes, existing assessment attempts (tests that students have already taken) will show the new text, not the original text.
- Enter the changes and click Submit, then click OK
